Same-day pallet delivery is one of the more complex courier bookings to get right. Unlike a parcel, a pallet involves vehicle selection, access requirements, and loading equipment. Here's everything you need before you book.
Pallet Sizes and Standards The UK standard pallet is 1200mm × 1000mm. Euro pallets (1200mm × 800mm) are also common for inbound European freight. Height is typically capped at 1.2m for standard vehicles, though high-cube vehicles can accommodate 1.8m. Weight limits vary significantly by vehicle: a Luton van can carry a single pallet up to around 700–800kg, while a 7.5-tonne truck can handle up to 2,500kg per pallet, depending on configuration.
Vehicle Options for Pallet Delivery For one or two standard pallets, a Luton box van with tail lift is usually the right vehicle. It offers flexible access and can handle most loading bays. For three to six pallets, a 7.5-tonne curtainsider or box truck is more appropriate. Full loads of seven or more pallets require an artic (HGV/articulated lorry). Specifying the wrong vehicle is the most common booking mistake — if in doubt, describe your cargo dimensions and weight and let the courier recommend.
Access and Loading Requirements Not all sites are equal. Industrial estates with loading bays and forklifts are straightforward. Ground-floor residential deliveries are fine if the driver has a pump truck and the pallet is on a hard surface. Problems arise when: there is no loading bay and no tail lift specified, the delivery site is on an upper floor with no goods lift, the site has height or weight restrictions, or the recipient has no forklift and the pallet is too heavy to hand-ball. Always confirm access requirements at both ends before booking. Mismatched access can result in a failed delivery and a re-delivery charge.
How to Book Same-Day Pallet Delivery Provide the courier with: pickup and delivery postcodes, number of pallets, dimensions (L × W × H in mm), total weight, collection time needed, any access restrictions, and whether tail lift is required at either end. With this information, you'll receive an accurate quote and the right vehicle will be dispatched. Book your pallet delivery online with X-Eagle, or call us to discuss larger or unusual loads.
