Haulage company, Wakefield
Part loads, full loads and pallets on 7.5 to 26 tonne vehicles around Wakefield
Wakefield and the Normanton and Castleford corridor are half an hour from our Bradford yard, in the middle of one of the densest logistics areas in the North. We run 7.5 to 26 tonne vehicles with tail lifts on dedicated loads — your freight, your vehicle, no hub. If a pallet network has let you down or refused the load, that is usually why people ring us.
What needs hauling around Wakefield
The Wakefield district is warehousing and distribution at scale — the big sheds at Normanton and Castleford — plus food manufacturing, glass and chemicals running through Knottingley and Ferrybridge. Pallets move constantly, most of them through networks and most of them without incident.
What comes to a dedicated haulier is the exception: the consignment that missed the trunk, the over-height pallet the network refused, the urgent replenishment before a shift change, the load that has to arrive in one piece and in one go. Those are priced on the drive rather than a tariff, and they go on one vehicle from gate to gate.
The fleet, by payload
Weight decides the vehicle before size does. A dense half-tonne crate can need a 7.5 tonne even though it would fit in a van. Every one of these carries a tail lift, so a site with no forklift is not a problem.
| Vehicle | Payload | Pallets | Load space |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luton + Tail Lift | 1 t | 6 | 4m × 2m × 2m |
| 7.5t Truck | 2.5 t | 10 | 6m × 2.4m × 2.4m |
| 12t Truck | 5.8 t | 14 | 7m × 2.4m × 2.4m |
| 18t Truck | 9.5 t | 16 | 8m × 2.4m × 2.4m |
| 26t Truck | 15 t | 18 | 8.2m × 2.5m × 2.5m |

Haulage in Wakefield — common questions
Can you collect from a Normanton or Castleford warehouse?
Yes, and quickly — it is around half an hour from us and the logistics parks are straightforward for access. Give us the postcode, the pallet count and the weight.
Our pallet network refused the load. Can you take it?
Usually. Over-height, out of gauge, badly stacked, single heavy items and anything labelled dangerous goods are the common refusals, and none of them stop a dedicated vehicle — though for dangerous goods we carry only the limited and under-threshold categories.
Do you do scheduled weekly runs?
Yes. A fixed day with the same vehicle and driver costs less than booking each time and makes your own planning easier.
What do you need to know before quoting a haulage job?
Five things, and they settle almost everything: the weight, the footprint and height, how many pallets or items, how it is being loaded and unloaded at each end, and whether either site has a forklift. A job with no forklift at delivery needs a tail lift and a pram truck, which changes the vehicle and the price. Guessing at these is how a lorry turns up that cannot do the job.
What size vehicles do you run?
Luton with a tail lift (around 1 tonne, 6 pallets), 7.5 tonne (2.5 tonnes, 10 pallets), 12 tonne (5.8 tonnes, 14 pallets), 18 tonne (9.5 tonnes, 16 pallets) and 26 tonne (15 tonnes, 18 pallets). Artics are arranged through our partner network rather than our own fleet.
Can you deliver where there is no forklift?
Yes, with a tail lift from the Luton upwards. Tell us at booking that the delivery site has no handling equipment and we will send a vehicle that can unload on its own. It is the single most common reason a haulage delivery fails on arrival.
What about drivers’ hours on a long run?
We plan to the legal limits rather than hoping. If a run will not fit inside one shift we quote it as a two-day job up front and say so. The alternative is a driver running out of hours on your delivery, which costs you the day anyway and costs us the licence.
Do you route for lorries or just use a satnav?
Larger vehicles are routed for weight limits, low bridges and width restrictions, not by car satnav. That matters more than people expect around old mill towns and canal bridges in West Yorkshire, where a 26 tonne cannot follow the obvious road.
Dedicated or groupage?
Everything we run is dedicated — your load, your vehicle, straight there. Groupage is cheaper per pallet and slower, and it means your freight shares a trailer and gets handled at a hub. If your load is fragile, urgent, awkward or has been refused by a pallet network, dedicated is usually the only thing that actually works.
Weight, pallets, and whether there is a forklift
Those three and the two postcodes are all we need to price it on the call. The quote you get is the price invoiced.
