Class 2 gases and aerosols courier
Class 2 covers compressed, liquefied and dissolved gases, split into flammable, non-flammable and toxic divisions. Aerosols are the version a courier sees most and usually ship under Limited Quantity; cylinders are a different proposition and bring securing, ventilation and valve-protection requirements with them.
Aerosols and cylinders are different jobs
A carton of aerosols marked as Limited Quantity travels much like ordinary freight. A compressed gas cylinder does not: it must be secured so it cannot move or fall, valves must be protected, and the load space needs ventilation appropriate to the gas.
Cylinders also raise a practical question that has nothing to do with regulation — weight and handling. A full industrial cylinder is a two-person lift or a tail-lift job, and that belongs in the quote rather than being discovered at the kerb.
Common Class 2 consignments
This page explains the framework; it is not a compliance opinion on your consignment. Send us the UN number, the packing group and the weight or volume per package and we will tell you in writing which route it travels under.
- Aerosol products in retail packaging
- Refrigerant gas for HVAC work
- Compressed gas cylinders for welding and laboratory use
- Fire extinguishers and their refills
- Dissolved gases such as acetylene
What X-Eagle will carry
We carry dangerous goods that fall under Limited Quantity, Excepted Quantity or the ADR 1.1.3.6 threshold today. For a placarded full-ADR load we will tell you so and help you find a carrier who holds the certificate, rather than take the job and work it out later.
Common questions
Can you courier aerosols?
Yes. Aerosols packed and marked as Limited Quantity are routinely carried without a placarded ADR vehicle. Bulk aerosol loads above the threshold need the full regime.
How are gas cylinders carried safely?
Secured upright and restrained so they cannot move or fall, with valve protection fitted and ventilation appropriate to the gas. Loose cylinders rolling in a van are a serious hazard regardless of what is inside them.
Are fire extinguishers dangerous goods?
Yes, fire extinguishers are Class 2 as pressurised containers, though many travel under provisions that keep them straightforward to carry.
Send us the UN number and we will tell you how it travels
The UN number, the packing group and the quantity per package settle it in one call. We will put the answer in writing before anything is collected.
