Dangerous goods courier, Humberside
Hull and the Humber bank are an M62 run from our Bradford yard — comfortably same day, and same morning if you ring early. We carry Limited Quantity, Excepted Quantity and under-threshold consignments on a dedicated vehicle with the transport document and extinguisher required. The Humber is heavy full-ADR country and a lot of what moves there needs placards and a certificated driver; we hold neither, and we will tell you straight away when a load is outside what we can legally take.
What moves across Hull, Grimsby and the Humber bank
The Humber bank is one of the largest concentrations of process industry in the UK — refining, chemicals, bulk storage and the ports at Hull, Immingham and Killingholme feeding all of it. The great majority of the dangerous goods tonnage there moves in bulk, on tankers and placarded trailers, and that is not work we can touch.
What sits underneath it is a long supply chain of engineering, maintenance, laboratory and specialist supply firms whose consignments are small and time-critical: a few litres of a reagent for a plant lab, a pallet of packaged additive, aerosols and sealants for a shutdown, sample bottles going to an analytical lab in Leeds or Manchester. Those routinely fall inside Limited Quantity or Excepted Quantity limits, they routinely get refused by the networks, and they routinely need to be somewhere this afternoon.
How quickly we get there
Bradford to Hull is a little over ninety minutes on the M62, and Scunthorpe and Goole are closer. Same-day is normal; a pre-booked morning collection is the safest way to get a Humber job onto a vehicle early.
Towns we collect from across Hull, Grimsby and the Humber bank: Hull, Grimsby, Immingham, Scunthorpe, Goole, Beverley, Brigg, Barton-upon-Humber, Cleethorpes, Howden. If your site is not on that list it is almost certainly still covered — the list is the main ones, not the limit.
What we will carry across Hull, Grimsby and the Humber bank, and what we will not
We carry dangerous goods that fall under Limited Quantity, Excepted Quantity or the ADR 1.1.3.6 threshold today. For a placarded full-ADR load we will tell you so and help you find a carrier who holds the certificate, rather than take the job and work it out later.
Most carriers will not put that in writing until you have already booked. We would rather lose the enquiry at the first phone call than collect a load we are not certificated to move, because the consequence of getting that wrong lands on your consignment note as well as our licence.
What we need from you before collection
- The UN number and proper shipping name — this settles almost everything else.
- The class and packing group.
- The quantity per inner package and the total on the consignment, because that is what decides whether it stays under the threshold.
- Whether the outer packaging is marked and in date, and whether the goods are new stock or waste.
- The collection site and whether it needs a permit or induction, so the driver arrives able to get in.
Send those five things and we will tell you in writing which route the consignment travels under before anything is picked up. If it turns out to need placards and a certificated driver, we will say so and help you place it elsewhere.
Questions we get from shippers across Hull, Grimsby and the Humber bank
Can you collect from a Humber bank site?
Yes, subject to the site permit process and to the consignment being inside Limited Quantity, Excepted Quantity or the 1.1.3.6 threshold. Tell us the site and we will confirm what induction or permit we need before we turn up.
We need a sample at a lab in Leeds this afternoon — can you do it?
That is the job this service is built for. Dedicated van, direct run, no hub, with the sample paperwork and transport document in order. Ring with the UN number and we will give you a collection time on the call.
Do you do bulk tanker work on the Humber?
No. We have no tanker capability and no ADR certificated drivers. For bulk you need a specialist operator and we will say so rather than take the enquiry.
Send us the UN number and we will tell you how it travels
One call settles it. The UN number, the packing group and the quantity per package, and you will have our answer in writing before a vehicle is sent.
