Dangerous goods courier, South Yorkshire
South Yorkshire is a fifty-minute run from our Bradford yard, so a Sheffield or Rotherham collection is a same-day job and usually a same-morning one. We carry Limited Quantity, Excepted Quantity and under-threshold consignments on a dedicated vehicle with the transport document and extinguisher in place. We hold no ADR vocational certificates and no DGSA appointment, so placarded loads are not ours — and we will tell you that before you commit, not after.
What moves across South Yorkshire
Sheffield and Rotherham still run on metal, and metal runs on acid. Pickling lines, electroplaters, anodisers, heat treatment shops and tool makers all consume and dispose of Class 8 corrosives in drum and IBC quantities, and the surrounding engineering supply chain moves solvent degreasers, penetrant dyes, aerosols and cutting fluids in small packaged lots. Doncaster adds distribution: a lot of what comes off the rail and road corridor there is packaged chemical stock moving onward in part loads.
The pattern is the same as in the rest of the North: the regulated end of it goes on a tanker or a placarded curtainsider, and the small packaged urgent end of it gets refused by the networks and then needs a van the same afternoon. Limited Quantity volumes of plating chemistry, a few litres of penetrant, a box of aerosols for a shutdown — those are legally straightforward and commercially awkward, which is the gap a dedicated vehicle fills.
How quickly we get there
From Bradford it is the M1 south, so Sheffield and Rotherham are routinely a same-morning collection and Doncaster the same. For a late-afternoon call we will tell you honestly whether it is today or first thing tomorrow.
Towns we collect from across South Yorkshire: Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, Chesterfield, Mexborough, Stocksbridge, Dinnington, Maltby, Thorne. If your site is not on that list it is almost certainly still covered — the list is the main ones, not the limit.
What we will carry across South Yorkshire, and what we will not
We carry dangerous goods that fall under Limited Quantity, Excepted Quantity or the ADR 1.1.3.6 threshold today. For a placarded full-ADR load we will tell you so and help you find a carrier who holds the certificate, rather than take the job and work it out later.
Most carriers will not put that in writing until you have already booked. We would rather lose the enquiry at the first phone call than collect a load we are not certificated to move, because the consequence of getting that wrong lands on your consignment note as well as our licence.
What we need from you before collection
- The UN number and proper shipping name — this settles almost everything else.
- The class and packing group.
- The quantity per inner package and the total on the consignment, because that is what decides whether it stays under the threshold.
- Whether the outer packaging is marked and in date, and whether the goods are new stock or waste.
- The collection site and whether it needs a permit or induction, so the driver arrives able to get in.
Send those five things and we will tell you in writing which route the consignment travels under before anything is picked up. If it turns out to need placards and a certificated driver, we will say so and help you place it elsewhere.
Questions we get from shippers across South Yorkshire
Can you move plating or pickling chemicals around Sheffield the same day?
Where they are packaged inside Limited Quantity volumes or stay under the 1.1.3.6 threshold, yes, same day on a dedicated van. Bulk drums or IBCs of Class 8 that need placarding do not qualify and we will say so.
Do you cover Doncaster for urgent chemical part loads?
Yes. Doncaster is inside our normal same-day radius from Bradford. Van through to 26 tonne, and the load travels on its own vehicle rather than being consolidated.
What about waste chemicals?
Waste carries its own duty of care paperwork on top of the transport rules and we are not a licensed waste carrier. Tell us up front if the consignment is waste and we will point you to someone who holds the registration.
Send us the UN number and we will tell you how it travels
One call settles it. The UN number, the packing group and the quantity per package, and you will have our answer in writing before a vehicle is sent.
