Dangerous goods courier, Merseyside and Cheshire
Merseyside and the Cheshire chemical belt are around a two-hour run from our Bradford yard, so same-day works when it is booked in the morning. We carry Limited Quantity, Excepted Quantity and under-threshold consignments on a dedicated vehicle with the required transport document and extinguisher. Runcorn, Widnes and Ellesmere Port generate a great deal of placarded full-ADR traffic and we are clear that we do not hold the certificates for that work.
What moves across Merseyside and Cheshire
Widnes and Runcorn have been a chemical manufacturing centre since the nineteenth century, and the Mersey belt through to Ellesmere Port remains one of the densest chemical corridors in the country. Alongside the large sites sits a long tail of blenders, distributors, laboratory suppliers and engineering firms, and the Port of Liverpool pulls packaged chemical imports through in part-load quantities.
The small, urgent end of that traffic is what a dedicated van is for. Limited Quantity volumes of coatings and cleaning chemistry, laboratory reagents, packaged additives, aerosols for maintenance work, analytical samples with a hold time. All legally straightforward, all refused by the pallet networks, and all on a clock.
How quickly we get there
Bradford across to Warrington and Widnes is roughly two hours. Booked in the morning it is a same-day job; we will tell you plainly when a late booking has to become tomorrow.
Towns we collect from across Merseyside and Cheshire: Liverpool, Runcorn, Widnes, Warrington, Ellesmere Port, St Helens, Birkenhead, Northwich, Chester, Crewe, Bootle. If your site is not on that list it is almost certainly still covered — the list is the main ones, not the limit.
What we will carry across Merseyside and Cheshire, and what we will not
We carry dangerous goods that fall under Limited Quantity, Excepted Quantity or the ADR 1.1.3.6 threshold today. For a placarded full-ADR load we will tell you so and help you find a carrier who holds the certificate, rather than take the job and work it out later.
Most carriers will not put that in writing until you have already booked. We would rather lose the enquiry at the first phone call than collect a load we are not certificated to move, because the consequence of getting that wrong lands on your consignment note as well as our licence.
What we need from you before collection
- The UN number and proper shipping name — this settles almost everything else.
- The class and packing group.
- The quantity per inner package and the total on the consignment, because that is what decides whether it stays under the threshold.
- Whether the outer packaging is marked and in date, and whether the goods are new stock or waste.
- The collection site and whether it needs a permit or induction, so the driver arrives able to get in.
Send those five things and we will tell you in writing which route the consignment travels under before anything is picked up. If it turns out to need placards and a certificated driver, we will say so and help you place it elsewhere.
Questions we get from shippers across Merseyside and Cheshire
Do you collect from Runcorn or Widnes sites?
Yes, where the consignment is inside Limited Quantity, Excepted Quantity or the 1.1.3.6 threshold, and subject to the site permit process. Tell us the site and we will sort the induction before we arrive.
Can you clear a packaged chemical part load from the Port of Liverpool?
We can move it once it is released and documented. We are not a customs agent, so the clearance itself is not ours, but the dedicated run from quayside to your premises is.
How do you handle mixed loads of different classes?
Because every job is a dedicated vehicle there is nothing else on board, which keeps segregation and the mixed-load threshold calculation simple. Send us the full list of UN numbers and quantities and we will do that calculation in writing before collection.
Send us the UN number and we will tell you how it travels
One call settles it. The UN number, the packing group and the quantity per package, and you will have our answer in writing before a vehicle is sent.
