Dangerous goods courier, Lancashire

Lancashire is an hour and a half or so from our Bradford yard over the M65 and M6, which makes Blackburn, Burnley and Preston comfortable same-day collections. We carry Limited Quantity, Excepted Quantity and under-threshold consignments on a dedicated vehicle with the transport document and extinguisher in place. We do not hold ADR vocational certificates and have no DGSA appointed, so placarded loads are outside what we can legally carry.

What moves across Lancashire

East Lancashire kept its speciality chemical base after the textile trade that created it went. Blackburn, Burnley, Accrington and the Rossendale valley hold formulators of coatings, adhesives, surfactants and industrial cleaning chemistry, along with aerospace and automotive component makers who use solvent and corrosive chemistry in their processes.

The consignments are small packaged lots moving to customers, laboratories and sites, and the pattern is familiar: inside Limited Quantity volumes or under the threshold, straightforward to carry correctly, and flatly refused by a pallet network that will not take anything with a UN number on the box. A dedicated van within the hour from across the Pennines is usually the quickest answer available.

How quickly we get there

Burnley and Blackburn are around an hour from Bradford over the M65, Preston a little more. These are routine same-day collections for us rather than a long-distance quote.

Towns we collect from across Lancashire: Preston, Blackburn, Burnley, Blackpool, Lancaster, Accrington, Nelson, Chorley, Leyland, Skelmersdale, Clitheroe, Rossendale. If your site is not on that list it is almost certainly still covered — the list is the main ones, not the limit.

What we will carry across Lancashire, and what we will not

We carry dangerous goods that fall under Limited Quantity, Excepted Quantity or the ADR 1.1.3.6 threshold today. For a placarded full-ADR load we will tell you so and help you find a carrier who holds the certificate, rather than take the job and work it out later.

Most carriers will not put that in writing until you have already booked. We would rather lose the enquiry at the first phone call than collect a load we are not certificated to move, because the consequence of getting that wrong lands on your consignment note as well as our licence.

What we need from you before collection

  • The UN number and proper shipping name — this settles almost everything else.
  • The class and packing group.
  • The quantity per inner package and the total on the consignment, because that is what decides whether it stays under the threshold.
  • Whether the outer packaging is marked and in date, and whether the goods are new stock or waste.
  • The collection site and whether it needs a permit or induction, so the driver arrives able to get in.

Send those five things and we will tell you in writing which route the consignment travels under before anything is picked up. If it turns out to need placards and a certificated driver, we will say so and help you place it elsewhere.

Questions we get from shippers across Lancashire

How long does it take you to reach Burnley or Blackburn?

About an hour from Bradford over the M65. Ring with the UN number and quantity and we will confirm the collection time on the call.

Can you run a Lancashire collection down to the South the same day?

Yes. A dedicated vehicle goes direct, so a Lancashire to Midlands or Lancashire to London run is a single drive with no hub and no overnight.

Do you handle aerosols?

Yes, where they are packed within Limited Quantity volumes — aerosols are one of the most common Limited Quantity consignments there is. Larger quantities push you over the threshold and need a full-ADR carrier.

Send us the UN number and we will tell you how it travels

One call settles it. The UN number, the packing group and the quantity per package, and you will have our answer in writing before a vehicle is sent.
