Dangerous goods courier, the North East
The North East is a two-and-a-half-hour run from our Bradford yard, so a Newcastle or Sunderland job booked in the morning goes today and a late booking honestly becomes tomorrow morning. We carry Limited Quantity, Excepted Quantity and under-threshold consignments on a dedicated vehicle with the transport document and extinguisher in place. Placarded full-ADR work needs a certificated driver and a DGSA, and we hold neither.
What moves across Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and Durham
The North East holds pharmaceutical and fine chemical manufacturing around Cramlington and Washington, offshore and subsea engineering along the Tyne and Wear, and a research and laboratory cluster through Newcastle and Durham. The automotive plant at Sunderland pulls a large component supply chain with it, much of which uses adhesives, sealants, solvents and battery chemistry.
Those sectors generate the consignment type this service suits: small packaged lots, often laboratory or prototype quantities, frequently lithium cells or solvent-based products, almost always needed sooner than a network can manage even when a network would accept them. A dedicated van doing a single direct run is both simpler and, for anything time-critical, usually the only option.
How quickly we get there
Bradford to Newcastle is around two and a half hours up the A1. It is a proper dedicated long run rather than a local collection, so we will give you a realistic time and stick to it.
Towns we collect from across Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and Durham: Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham, Washington, South Shields, North Shields, Blyth, Cramlington, Consett, Hexham. If your site is not on that list it is almost certainly still covered — the list is the main ones, not the limit.
What we will carry across Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and Durham, and what we will not
We carry dangerous goods that fall under Limited Quantity, Excepted Quantity or the ADR 1.1.3.6 threshold today. For a placarded full-ADR load we will tell you so and help you find a carrier who holds the certificate, rather than take the job and work it out later.
Most carriers will not put that in writing until you have already booked. We would rather lose the enquiry at the first phone call than collect a load we are not certificated to move, because the consequence of getting that wrong lands on your consignment note as well as our licence.
What we need from you before collection
- The UN number and proper shipping name — this settles almost everything else.
- The class and packing group.
- The quantity per inner package and the total on the consignment, because that is what decides whether it stays under the threshold.
- Whether the outer packaging is marked and in date, and whether the goods are new stock or waste.
- The collection site and whether it needs a permit or induction, so the driver arrives able to get in.
Send those five things and we will tell you in writing which route the consignment travels under before anything is picked up. If it turns out to need placards and a certificated driver, we will say so and help you place it elsewhere.
Questions we get from shippers across Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and Durham
Will you do a dedicated run from Newcastle down to Yorkshire or the Midlands?
Yes, and that is the most common shape of North East job for us — one vehicle, direct, no hub, live tracking and the POD in your login on delivery.
Can you carry lithium cells from an automotive or research site?
Where they fall inside the UN3480/UN3481 Section II conditions or are installed in equipment, yes. Prototype, damaged or defective cells need a carrier with the full ADR certificate.
How late can I book for today?
For the North East, realistically mid-morning if it has to be delivered today. Ring and we will tell you the truth about the cut-off rather than take the booking and miss it.
Send us the UN number and we will tell you how it travels
One call settles it. The UN number, the packing group and the quantity per package, and you will have our answer in writing before a vehicle is sent.
